Why a ´talk-about´ book? Young children enjoy seeing other children involved in the same activities that occupy their everyday life; they find it comforting and reassuring. So, this book, with its detailed and colourful pictures of people ub familiar situations, can provide young children with many hours of pleasure. They can trace the ´story´ of the members of a family, their relatives and friends through the pictures, and play the game of finding the named objects around the main picture in the picture itself. Designed essentially as a ´talk-about´ book, the main pictures on each spread have been conceptualised to stimulade children to talk freely about the situations, people and objects shown. Developing children´s ability to interpret pictures is an important step towards reading and understanding stories. Acquiring a large and varied spoken vocabulary is a necessary pre-requisite for a successeful start in reading.
